German mid-career artist Volker Saul will present new site-specific mural paintings at City Art Rooms. Working with a design template, the trained painter employs vibrant colours and reduced forms to activate the walls of galleries and other found, often industrial spaces. Drawings made directly from a tube of oil paint onto paper starts the intial process of conceptualising ambiguous, figurative forms. The imagery seems to be caught in a transition of becoming or unravelling - are they aliens, gender swapping invertebrates, or perhaps a Rorschach blot gone awry?
